DIY

I want to inspire you to see that funky spaces can be easily transformed.    "Do It Yourself" projects can be overwhelming.  However, with patience and time, it is very gratifying once you are complete.  They are also a great way to create a wonderful and warm memory.

Here are some images of  my own DIY's.  This is a bedroom in my house when we first purchased it.  I think that most of the home shoppers were turned away from the house by this room.  It certainly didn't feel like it is was circa 2007, as seen on the left picture.

The image on the right is after the DIY.  My husband is not a handyman but, I'm very impressed with his ability to work the miter saw and nail gun.  It was a team effort involving my dad and husband.  I remember when we were just about done and the ceiling leaked on my husband's head.  My dad was snickering at him. Needless to say, I have great memories of this room's transformation. When I choose to sell my home, this will be one room that I'll miss just because of the memories we made in creating this room.

In the photo above, I took out the doors from the closet and converted into a reading nook. Contrasting color breaks it up and when you are in the nook, it feels different.  Today, we have a small wall shelf and a bin filled with books. This is Xavier's favorite part of the day - reading in his little nook.

It never suprises me what paint and landscaping can do to a home's exterior.

The following are after photos of a condo in Brooklyn, NY - newly furnished. Not much went into this one, changing out the light fixtures and painting.

  1. Hi Paula,
Wow what a transformation in the baby's room!! I love the wood paneling on the walls, that must have been very time consuming, but it definitely paid off! I, too, love home improvement/renovation projects...but I am not very good at them!
